Mn: What next for Milan Futuro after ‘nightmare’…see more

The nightmare has come true: Milan Futuro were relegated to Serie D after losing 2-0 against SPAL last night, and now big changes are expected.

Massimo Oddo’s side won the first leg one week ago and just needed to avoid losing in order to keep their place in Serie C, but they were beaten 2-0 away from home on Saturday night and that sealed their fate.

Calciomercato.com ask the obvious question: what happens now? Thanks to the new regulation, the Futuro can continue their project without losing the title. Starting from the 2024-2025 season, the FIGC has introduced a new rule regarding the so-called ‘B’ teams (second teams of Serie A clubs).

In the event of direct relegation or defeat in the play-offs, Under 23 teams are regularly relegated to the amateurs, without having their licenses revoked as happened in past seasons. In the past, in fact, a second relegated team would have had to start a new registration or hope for a repechage.

The two possible paths

Now Milan have two roads ahead: the first is playing at a non-professional level without changing the mission. The work of developing young talents will continue, many of whom have already been seen with the former Stefano Pioli in Serie A.

Profiles such as Davide Bartesaghi, Alex Jimenez and the phenomenon Francesco Camarda have played for the Futuro, and things could remain unchanged. In all likelihood without Jovan Kirovski: the American director has shown that he is not ready for this type of project.

The certainty is that Milan Futuro do not want to lose their license and therefore will not give up playing in Serie D. There is a very slim hope that teams in Serie C do not register for next season, allowing a fresh application.

However, the other under 23 teams are well positioned in the table and for the Rossoneri there are no concrete possibilities. Inter are also expected to present their application for registration in the next Serie C season.
