AC Milan’s failure of a 2024-25 season was confirmed by a 3-1 defeat to Roma on Sunday night, and now a major inquest must begin.
After the defeat in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday, Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) write how yet another disappointment arrived yesterday evening for Milan who lost against Roma. It confirmed that the Rossoneri will not participate in any European competition next season.
The last league match against Monza at San Siro will therefore be practically useless, because at most Milan can jump into eighth and would thus avoid playing the Coppa Italia in August.
Bitter Olimpico
The Olimpico is not a happy venue for Milan. The defeat against Bologna in the Coppa Italia final was still in the minds of Sergio Conceiçao’s players who went behind after less than three minutes last night.
To further complicate things, Santiago Gimenez was sent off in the 18th minute for an elbow on Mancini. It was the correct decision, but as Conceicao pointed out a few days ago a practically identical episode by Bologna’s Beukema was not punished in the same way on Wednesday.
The game seemed to be over and instead Milan reacted with ten men and found the equaliser with Joao Felix. A draw would have allowed the Rossoneri to keep alive some hope of qualifying at least in the Conference League.
In the second half Roma went ahead again through Paredes, who surprised Maignan with a free-kick. At the end of the game, the goal from ex-Milan man Bryan Cristante ended the game and also the Diavolo’s failed season. It is time to immediately start the reconstruction.
