In January, AC Milan attempted a move for Maurizio Sarri, but they were rejected. Now, the time could finally be right to wed.
You can go back years to find links between Milan and Sarri, each with a differing level of possibility. However, most of them certainly come within the past 12 months, where the idea has been consistently flirted with.
When Stefano Pioli left, the Italian’s name was very much present. Instead, the club turned to Paulo Fonseca. Then, when the Portuguese’s time came to an end, Sarri was back in the frame, though you could question if he ever left.
Instead of landing him, though, as Calciomercato.com write, the club offered him a deal against his wishes, which Sergio Conceicao accepted. Again, the Diavolo are in need of a head coach, and with Igli Tare seemingly coming in, Sarri could arrive as well.
The pair have been heavily rumoured to arrive together, but the report states that his abilities to work across a range of systems would also be appreciated by the management, regardless of Tare’s arrival. Additionally, the current 4-3-3 system could be able to be moulded into his own.
Vincenzo Italiano remains behind him in the runnings, whilst Massimiliano Allegri and Gian Piero Gasperini loom further in the distance. For now, though, the Sarri idea is getting more popular again.
