Arsenal have earmarked RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Sesko as their first-choice striker target this summer, a club insider has claimed.
The Gunners are reportedly prioritising a move for the Slovenian international over Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, who remains on the list as an alternative option.
Mikel Arteta’s side are expected to sign a new number nine after the season following an injury-hit campaign for both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
Sesko is believed to have a release clause worth around €70m (£59m), which would place him among Arsenal’s top five most expensive signings ever.
Sesko was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last summer before signing a new long-term deal with Leipzig, which runs until June 2029.
The ‘unstoppable’ Slovenia international, whose wage demands stand at £200,000 per week, is believed to have a gentleman’s agreement with the Bundesliga club allowing him to leave this summer if an attractive offer comes in.
Sesko, who joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg in 2023, has been productive in Germany for a second year running, scoring 21 goals and providing six assists in 45 appearances this season
Arsenal are now in advanced talks to make Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi their first summer signing and are expected to splash out £51m on the Spain international.
Zubimendi is likely to arrive at the Emirates as a long-term replacement for Flamengo-bound Jorginho, whose contract expires next month.
Arsenal will face Southampton away in their final league game of the season on Sunday.
