Igli Tare could soon be announced as the new sporting director of AC Milan, but as highlighted by Luca Serafini, the fact that the Rossoneri close the deal earlier only adds to the confusion.
Milan have been looking for a sporting director for several months now, following the falling out with Antonio D’Ottavio, and Tare has been out of contract since the summer of 2023. In other words, he could have arrived much earlier (mind you, it has not been made official yet).
Amid reports that he has now signed a contract, Luca Serafini questioned the appointment in his latest editorial for MilanNews. Highlighting the confusion that has been surrounding the club lately, he questioned why Tare wasn’t hired earlier if he was indeed the first choice.
“The parameters [for hiring someone] are a reasonable salary and the willingness to align with the project. In short, candidates who aren’t too expensive nor too invasive, almost regardless of talent and ability.
“Igli Tare has been free for a few years. If he was the first choice from the start, why didn’t they hire him a year ago? Or in January, February, March…? Why?”.
In any case, if the reports are correct, it will be nice to see a sporting director take charge as a lot of planning is needed for next season. It has been one of the missing pieces to the puzzle and shortly after, Milan will be able to choose the new head coach as well.
