Maurizio Sarri has been linked with the AC Milan job again, as Sergio Conceicao is set to depart in the summer, and a return to Italian football could thus be on the cards for the manager.
Sarri has been out of contract since the summer of 2024, when he left Lazio, and has been waiting for the right opportunity to get back in action. As Milan are looking for a new manager ahead of next season, the 66-year-old has inevitably been linked with the club.
In one of our recent bonus articles on Substack, we discussed Sarri’s candidacy and why he could be the right man for Milan, looking at his record with the top sides and the money invested in each season (versus the final position). As you can see below, his points-per-game average is impressive.
The Lazio spell is the big caveat, of course, as there was a clear decline for the manager. However, Lazio barely invested anything in the mercato during that period. In fact, they even made a profit from transfers in two of the seasons (2022-23 and 2023-24).
