Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves made a powerful statement during Game 3 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night. Edwards dropped 30 points helping lead the Timberwolves to a Game 3, blowout victory over the Thunder.
The Timberwolves now trail the Thunder 2-1 in the Western Conference finals behind a 143-101 win. After dropping Games 1 and 2 in Oklahoma City by double digits, the Timberwolves looked to make a statement at home inside Target Center. Statement made, message received.
The Timberwolves finished with seven players in double figures, three of which outscoring recently named MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Gilgeous-Alexander finished with a season low, 14 points in an embarrassing loss.
As for Edwards, his 30-point performance was historic, landing him amongst elite NBA company. Saturday was Edwards’ fifteenth 30-point playoff game. As per @statmuse on X, Edwards joins Kobe Bryant and Luka Doncic as the only players in NBA history to have at least 15, 30-point playoff games before turning 24.
Edwards continues to stockpile impressive accolades throughout his young NBA career. Edwards, in just his fifth season in the league, was recently named to his second consecutive All-NBA second team.
Edwards also finished eighth in MVP voting this season. And now, Edwards has put the Timberwolves on his back in the playoffs, appearing in their second consecutive Western Conference finals.
Edwards and the Timberwolves look to reach their first NBA Finals in franchise history. Last season, they fell to the aforementioned Doncic and his Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference finals.
Edwards and the Timberwolves will have the chance to even up their series against the Thunder on Monday at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
