As we approach the summer mercato, transfer ideas are being revealed and it seems AC Milan want full-backs regardless of the outgoings.
There has been an extensive record of Milan’s attempts to sign a deputy to Theo Hernandez in recent years. Each of them has met the same fate – failure. Fode Ballo-Toure, Diego Laxalt and even Filippo Terracciano, all came with the idea of helping lessen the need for Theo, each failed.
So, last summer, when Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced that the club already had a left-back to work under the Frenchman, there was intrigue. Since that comment, Alex Jimenez (the player in question) has played at left-back just four times.
That number is much higher on the right, where he is more confident. So, regardless of Theo’s future, Milan want to sign a full-back this summer, according to Matteo Moretto on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, via Milan News.
At present, the leading idea seems to be Junior Firpo, whose contract with Leeds United – who recently were promoted to the Premier League – is expiring.
If the Dominican left-back does not arrive, the likelihood is that it will be someone of a similar profile. A free agent, an ‘opportunity’ rather than a market purchase. Of course, this would probably change depending on Theo’s situation.
