It looks, at this moment in time, as if Arsenal have chosen Benjamin Sesko to be their number one striker signing this summer.
The Slovenian striker was linked with a move to Arsenal last summer, but a deal could not be done, with the now 22-year-old choosing to sign a new deal with RB Leipzig and get another year under his belt in the Bundesliga.
After scoring 21 goals in 45 games for Leipzig this season, the time may now be right for him to move to the Premier League, with reports claiming that Arsenal had opened talks with the German side over a £92.5million transfer.
Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Sesko and football.london understands that new sporting director Andrea Berta is working on a number of deals, not just Sesko, with Martin Zubimendi close to completing a move to north London too.
If Arsenal do conclude a deal for Sesko in the coming days, it would slikely signal an end to their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres – another striker for whom the Gunners have been long-term admirers.
The talk around Sesko has ramped up over the past few days, but it has had little impact, as you would expect, on Gyokeres.
Preparing for international duty with Sweden, Gyokeres is still revelling in Sporting CP’s league and cup double, crowned last week with a 3-1 win over Benfica in the Taca de Portugal.
Speaking on his Instagram page, Gyokeres said: “Have a nice weekend Sportinguistas it will be hard to be as good as last week.”
The 26-year-old remains fully focused on life with Sporting amid all the talk surrounding his future.
Arsenal may well move on from the Swede, but a number of other clubs remain interested in the frontman and he could yet make the move to the Premier League with former boss Ruben Amorim and Manchester United still in the hunt.
