Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma are expected to rival Milan in negotiations with Udinese for centre-forward and Italy international Lorenzo Lucca, Football Italia understands.
Lucca is in line to leave Udinese during the upcoming summer transfer window in order to ‘step up’ to a club challenging for European positions.
Milan have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, and new sporting director Igli Tare has already held discussions with the player’s representatives according to reports at the end of May.
However, with Gasperini now in line to take over from Claudio Ranieri as head coach of Roma, the Giallorossi are now also expected to step forwards for Lucca.
Gasperini has been a long-standing admirer of the towering centre-forward, and had asked Atalanta to bring the player to Bergamo towards the end of the January transfer window.
Milan had also considered a bid for Lucca in January, but ultimately settled on the signing of Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord instead.
Juventus and Napoli have also expressed an interest at various stages.
It is expected that Udinese will command a €30m price tag for Lucca this summer.
