The start of the 2025-26 campaign is a ways away, but that hasn’t prevented the Los Angeles Lakers from discussing news relevant to the upcoming season.
The organization recently made a pivotal announcement for 2025-26 involving its newly acquired star point guard, Luka Doncic.
On Monday, the Lakers tweeted a graphic of their preseason home schedule, and one particular matchup stands out from the rest.
Los Angeles will face the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 15, allowing Doncic to compete against his former team for the third time since joining the Lakers in early February.
Doncic’s life changed on Feb. 2. The elite 26-year-old playmaker was likely preparing for the Mavericks’ upcoming contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, little did he know Dallas had its sights set on completing a blockbuster deal centered around him and Anthony Davis.
When Doncic returned to Dallas for the Lakers’ highly anticipated Apr. 9 clash against the Mavericks, the former No. 3 overall pick was understandably emotional.
Dallas displayed a touching tribute video for Doncic before the game, and the former face of the Mavericks couldn’t resist the urge to shed a few tears as he reminisced on his 5.5-year tenure with the organization.
Doncic finished with 45 points on 57.1% field goal shooting and 70% three-point shooting in the Lakers’ 112-97 victory over the Mavericks.
Scheduling a preseason contest between the two franchises was a wise move.
In addition to watching Doncic let off some steam against Dallas again, NBA fans will get to witness Cooper Flagg in action if the Mavericks select him No. 1 overall in the 2025 draft.
