Alongside All-Star LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic opened up about his transition from the Dallas Mavericks to living in Los Angeles this season. Doncic discussed what joining James was like. It was a shocking mid-season trade for the Mavericks. LeBron addressed what makes Luka a special teammate as the two agreed to the vast differences between Dallas and the City of Angels.
Doncic revealed his initial impressions of living in Los Angeles, per Steve Nash and James’ Mind The Game podcast.
Well first of all this is the first city I play in that has an ocean and I really like the ocean. So that was the first thing, I mean after a couple days that was the first thing on my mind you know,” Doncic said. “It’s a lot, I like it very much, the only thing is the traffic.”
When James first asked Doncic about the adjustment from Dallas to Los Angeles, Luka didn’t hesitate in mentioning the coast.
“The first thing I ask him a question, ‘How are you adjusting?’ he says, ‘I’m adjusting, I like the beach.’ That’s the first thing he said, ‘I like the beach,’” James revealed.
It’s an opportunity for Doncic to spend time enjoying one of his hobbies.
After losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves 4-1 in their second-round series, Doncic says it showed him how much work James puts into a postseason run.
I’ve never played with a guy like this,” Doncic said. “Being traded to LA, it was different, but just to play with guys like him, it’s unbelievable. I can learn so much stuff. Off the court, he does so much stuff just to be ready for the game. Obviously on the court everybody knows what kind of player he is. He shows up like 10 hours before the game.
Lakers All-Star LeBron James got a close-up look at what makes Luka Doncic an elite talent. James revealed what makes Doncic an ideal fit for the Lakers.
“It’s always his pace, and it’s always been his pace,” James said. “He moves at his own pace, and he’s never been on the floor where he’s allowed someone to dictate where they’re going to put him on the floor. It’s always been the opposite, and for us, we’re all working off that. We just have to stay ready.
It’ll be intriguing to see what the Lakers look like after a full regular season with Doncic and James leading
