According to Calciomercato, Hernandez could turn down a mega €20 million (£17m/$23m) salary offer as he would prefer to stay in Europe. Al-Hilal and Milan agreed terms for the sale of the defender for a sum of €35 million (£30m/$40m) but the move hinges on the player’s willingness to move. Atletico and Newcastle have reached out and the Frenchman will consider his options in the coming days.
With renewal talks between Milan and Hernandez stalling, the club have opted to put the left-back up for sale to ensure they do not lose him for free when his contract expires in the summer of 2026. Al-Hilal, who are moving aggressively in the market, were alert to his situation and decided to swoop in with an offer. However, he is inclined to turn down the offer, with Nicolo Schira reporting that he is open to returning to his former team Atletico.
Hernandez surpassed club legend Paolo Maldini’s record this season as he took his goal tally up to 31, making him their highest-scoring defender in Serie A.
Hernandez and his agent will now evaluate all their options on the table before making a final decision on his next destination. Meanwhile Milan, who appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new coach, would want the France international’s situation to be sorted quickly so as to plan ahead for the 2025-26 season.
