Warren Bondo was one of five signings that AC Milan made in the winter transfer window, and it would be fair to say not much has been seen of him.
Bondo arrived at Milan on deadline day in the winter transfer window with the label of being deputy to Youssouf Fofana, in essence a defensive-minded midfielder whose more important tasks might well be out of possession.
However, it took him a long time to make his debut for the club under Sergio Conceicao, not helped by the fact that the Frenchman arrived with an injury which didn’t help his initial adaptation period, and then the coach simply preferred others.
Allegri’s verdict
While waiting to see how Milan’s midfield jigsaw evolves over the summer, there is already one certainty and that is that Bondo will remain to be a part of the squad for next season, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below).
The midfielder, despite his limited use, is considered by the new coach Massimiliano Allegri to be a useful piece in how he wants to play, amid suggestions that he wishes to use a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3. Bondo can play either in a double pivot or as a mezzala in either system.
It is far too early to make any kind of definitive judgement on Bondo, but he has age (21) and therefore plenty of time to navigate towards showing his true position in the midfield tapestry moving forward.
