Alexis Saelemaekers will be a player of interest this summer, with the winger set to return to AC Milan. However, there may be more to it.
In the past few months, there have been regular queries about Saelemaekers and his future, with a stay in Rome looking more likely at one point. However, negotiations with Igli Tare halted the Roman club’s idea, making a stay more likely.
Now, though, there are two possibilities facing him.
Allegri’s idea
According to Milan News this evening, the Belgian could stay with Milan next season, with Massimiliano Allegri taking an interest in him. The report suggests that the Livorno coach will make assessments during pre-season.
What role he will play remains to be seen. However, a ‘wildcard’ situation is currently in mind, with him not likely to be a regular starter. Because of his spirit and versatility, though, he could provide useful contributions, whether in a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 situation.
Roma return
The idea of a return to Roma is not yet off the table either, despite negotiations with Tare not giving much hope. Previously, a swap deal has been hypothesised, with Tammy Abraham staying in Milano and Saelemaekers in Rome.
Now, a new idea has arisen, a very topical one, considering the situation which the Diavolo are in.
Rather than Abraham leaving Roma, it would be Mile Svilar, a target of the Rossoneri already, who could be included, as journalist Louis Girardi has claimed. Either outcome provides value for Milan, certainly.
