Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard reacted to the announcement of the departure of a long-serving Gunner.
The news was not particularly well received, given the winger is 30-years-old and saw his performances dip when compared to the 2023/24 season.
Arsenal fans were critical of the decision to open contract talks with Trossard, but the winger is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Despite the condemnation of the decision, the former Brighton man remains an important part of Mikel Arteta’s squad, registering the Gunners’ second-highest total of goals and assists last season, behind only Bukayo Saka.
Trossard has interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League and may yet decide to leave the North London club this summer.
Kieran Tierney signed a pre-contract agreement in January to return to Celtic, having left the Hoops to join Arsenal in 2019.
The Scotland international was an outstanding performer in his first few years in North London, but injuries curtailed his development.
Tierney announced his departure from Arsenal on Instagram in a post captioned: “Full of emotions these last few weeks! To be part of this special club for 6 years has meant so much to me and I’m grateful for every single second of it.
“To every member of staff and team mate I’ve had the pleasure of working with, thank you for everything you done for me. I’m so lucky to have worked with many amazing people who I learned so much from and helped me every day.
“To the fans, what a journey these last 6 years have been. All I can really say is thank you for the support and love you’ve given me through the good and the bad times. I appreciated everything and never took any of it for granted. It’s been fun.
“North London forever”, and the post was liked by former Arsenal teammate Trossard.
Matheus Cunha has signed for Man United, whilst Liam Delap will be competing with Chelsea next season.
Both players were linked with Arsenal at points during the season, with the Gunners in desperate need of a new number nine.
But despite the position being a problem, and their rivals moving quickly to snap up some of the best players on the market, Arteta‘s side are remaining patient.
The Gunners are not competing in the Club World Cup this summer, and despite their fans undoubtedly wanting to see some movement in the transfer market, the club are in no great hurry to rush through a deal.
Instead, it seems clear that Arsenal’s hierarchy would rather wait and negotiate the best deal possible. Only time will tell if their hesitation is the right move, or whether the North London club missed out on the best options available.
