Cafu believes that Massimiliano Allegri and Luka Modric’s experience would be important for AC Milan, while he praised two reported targets.
The Brazilian is someone who knows what it takes to win at Milan, given that he lifted the UEFA Champions League and the Scudetto among his six trophies at the club. It was in a red and black shirt that he made himself one of the best full-backs in the world, earning the nickname ‘Pendolino’.
It is a far cry from the era that he was used to at Milan currently, given last season’s eighth-placed finish and Champions League exit at the hands of Feyenoord. However, there are fresh faces around, with Igli Tare the sporting director and Massimiliano Allegri head croach.
Cafu spoke on stage at the Milano Football Week and he was asked about a number of different topics related to his former club Milan, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
On his past at Milan: “I never imagined I would play for Milan one day, I was told so many times that I would never be a footballer, but I never let anyone tell me what I could do. I had to be a footballer and that’s what happened. So many teams rejected me.”
On Milan’s defence in 2005: “What a defense that Milan 2005 had… We were all strong. Unbeatable and we even scored. We rarely conceded goals. Too disciplined. It was scary.”
On the possible arrival of Modric at Milan: “I don’t know if Modric will arrive or not. He has experience, Allegri can give a lot to Milan. Always a power in world football, but with him now maybe he can give the grit to get to the top. In my opinion Modric is an investment that can pay off.
“I hope he plays all the games, but it’s difficult. But he can help in the dressing room and on the pitch, he puts everyone in the right place. Then when the ball comes to him everyone seems paralyzed to see what he does. He can give a lot.”
On the many transfer rumours: “All the big purchases are good, we need to see if they are the right purchases for Allegri, in order to be competitive and go far.
On the Dodo links: “I see him well, the Dodo we saw playing for Fiorentina is very good, he had a great championship, he has personality.”
On Wesley: “He is also very good, let’s see what comes. He is playing very well, let’s see how he does at the Club World Cup.”
