The brand new, redesigned FIFA Club World Cup kicked off over the weekend, with an opening match that saw Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami face off against Al Ahly. Unfortunately for fans, the wait for a first goal in the new tournament format had to continue as the game ended goalless, despite countless opportunities to score for both sides.
The next set of games saw Bayern Munich kick off their campaign at the tournament with a David v. Goliath clash that promised goals against semi-pro Auckland City, and it didn’t take the Rekordmeister too long to give the new tournament its premier goal.
A well-placed Joshua Kimmich corner met Jonathan Tah in the box, who headed it towards Kingsley Coman, as the latter converted to give Bayern the lead in the fourth minute and write his name down in history, becoming the very first goalscorer in the revamped Club World Cup.
A surprising honor for the Frenchman, and hopefully one that will be remembered for a long time. Bayern currently leads 6-0 against Auckland City as Kingsley Coman scored again and is searching for a third to complete his hat-trick. What do you think of the game thus far?
