Revealed: Allegri’s mentor claims he ‘waited until the last moment for a call from Inter’…see more

Giovanni Galeone claims Massimiliano Allegri is excited ahead of his second AC Milan spell, but admitted he is surprised Inter didn’t go for him.

In a statement on the official website just over a week ago, Milan announced that Allegri will be back for a second spell at the club. He takes over from Sergio Conceicao as the head coach, who joined on December 30 but lasted just a few months before departing.

We revealed the full background on how Allegri’s return materialised in a feature not long after the announcement. Milan – with their new sporting director Igli Tare – decided to act quickly and get off the coaching carousel that still continues to

Galeone – who was Allegri’s former coach and is regarded as his mentor – spoke in an interview with Il Messaggero Veneto about his decision to go back to AC Milan. His comments were relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“I hope that this time it goes better for him and that he can win the Scudetto at the first attempt like in his previous adventure with the Rossoneri. And that’s not to say he won’t succeed,” he said.

“I spoke with him and he sounded very happy and excited. And in my opinion Tare is building a good team for him. I think Max waited until the last moment for a call from Inter. He had an agreement with Napoli, before Conte decided to stay.

“As far as I know, Inzaghi had promised himself to the Arab club for six months. It’s strange that Marotta, who had Allegri at Juve, didn’t take him.

“With all due respect to Chivu, a club that has played two Champions League finals in the last three seasons can’t take a coach with 13 games in Serie A.”
