On-loan Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira insists that he is focusing on the Club World Cup with Porto ahead of sorting out his future this summer
The 25-year-old has spent the last year on loan back at Porto, having made the permanent switch to north London back in 2022. Signing for a fee of up to £35million, the Gunners were hoping for good things from the young attacking star
However, things have not really gone to plan in London for Vieira. After arriving with a slight injury, the midfielder only went on to make 22 Premier League appearances for the Gunners in his first season, and a further 11 in his second season after undergoing surgery on a groin issue.
Having failed to make his way back into the starting XI on his return to action, Vieira left on loan to former club Porto in hope of rediscovering the form and fitness which saw Arsenal decide to pull the trigger on a move for the Portugal international.
While the season did not pan out exactly how the club would have hoped, finishing third in the league behind rivals Sporting and Benfica, there has been talk about Vieira extending his stay at the Estadio do Dragao.
However, after playing his part in the Portuguese side’s first Club World Cup clash against Palmeiras, the 25-year-old was asked whether he would be returning to Arsenal this summer; he admitted that nothing was set on his future
According to A Bola, via Sport Witness, Vieira said: “Right now is not the ideal time to talk about these issues. I am now representing FC Porto and I am 100% focused on this competition, with my teammates.
The Gunners will be hoping they can sort things out sooner rather than later for Vieira and plans can begin in earnest for any deals should he be leaving the club this summer – either on loan or permanently.
