There is a need for Milan to evaluate things at the back ahead of next season, and due to the situation with Mike Maignan, those discussions have probably been accelerated. However, this idea is not really new.
With a new deal not showing much promise in recent months, it is probable that the Rossoneri have been browsing the market for a while now, if not longer.
According to TBR Football, the Diavolo have placed Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario highly on their list, with a deal there ‘to be done’, even though the North London club were not planning on his sale.
He would fit the Italianisation plan implemented by Milan so far, with Igli Tare, Giorgio Furlani and Massimiliano Allegri all in favour of the idea. However, it seems another Italian featured on the list above him.
As the report continues, Vicario is ‘one of the best options’ on the shortlist, but he is and was not the primary target. Instead, the ‘dream’ was to bring Gianluigi Donnarumma home, with his deal expiring next season. It seems this will not be feasible, though, so others will now be analysed.
