Gyokeres’ transfer conundrum is the talk of the summer transfer window. The Swedish forward is desperate to leave the Portuguese club but, as per A Bola, the Liga Portugal winners are yet to receive any formal bids for the 27-year-old. To quell the rumors, Gyokeres took to Instagram to inform the fans about his situation, promising he would provide an update when the time is right.
The forward and the club reportedly had an agreement to sell Gyokeres but after the departure of former sporting director Hugo Viana, Sporting decided to hike the price. Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are all interested, but only the Italian side appear willing to match the €80 million (£68m/$92m) asking price at this stage. Despite the interest, the Swedish forward would prefer to move to top-flight clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.
Gyokeres’ representatives had contacted Madrid in the beginning of the transfer window but the La Liga club denied any interest, citing their already packed squad. The scenario that later unfolded in Lisbon hasn’t gone well for Gyokeres, as uncertainty around his future grows. The club president has also spoken out publicly that he won’t entertain blackmail and blamed the situation on the agent and miscommunication as he hit back at the claims he has gone back on his word.
Gyokeres had earlier threatened to go on strike should the situation continue, but with such large transfer fees being discussed and the Swedish player tied to the club until 2028, the saga could drag on for some time.
