MM: Arsenal handed Jack Wilshere return…see more

Arsenal have a coaching vacancy they need to fill, which could open up the chance for Jack Wilshere to make his return to the club.

The Gunners are set for some changes in the coaching staff this summer, with Mikel Arteta set to lose a trusted member of his backroom staff.

Carlos Cuesta is set to leave Arsenal to join Parma as their new head coach, kickstarting a new challenge for the Spaniard.

While it means that Arsenal lose one of their most valuable members of the coaching team, that could line up a pretty popular return to the club.

With Arsenal now on the hunt for a new staff member to replace Carlos Cuesta, there have been plenty of suggestions.

Arsenal fans want Santi Cazorla to return as a coach, though the 40-year-old is still in the mix for promotion to La Liga with Real Oviedo, and it’s unclear if he would retire so soon after the end of the season.

One former star who is available, however, is Jack Wilshere.

The ex-midfielder took the step into coaching with the Hale End academy, taking over as under-18s head coach.

While Wilshere left to join Norwich City, his stay there only lasted a few months as a change in management followed.

The former Arsenal star has outlined his ambitions to become a manager himself, though he is yet to land a new position.

That could open up the possibility of bringing the 33-year-old back to the Emirates Stadium.

While it wouldn’t be in the top position, it would bring him into the first-team setup and closer to gaining the experience needed to go onto management.

It simply makes sense for all parties involved, as the Gunners continue their search for another coach.

Many people view football clubs as places where players can progress to become better and create opportunities for themselves.

However, what is often forgotten is the fact that coaches can and will progress in the right circumstances.

They need experience of working in the environment, seeing what decisions to make and how different outcomes play out.

Mikel Arteta is the perfect example, having worked as an assistant to Pep Guardiola before being given the number one spot at the Emirates Stadium.

Even in his five years at the club, the head coach has been developing as he learns how to deal with different circumstances.

Cuesta is now a perfect example of someone doing the same, before moving on to a new opportunity elsewhere.

For Wilshere, that could be a display of what is possible if he returns to Arsenal, with a clear pathway available to the top.
