Granit Xhaka is getting closer and closer to AC Milan, having reached a verbal agreement with the Rossoneri over a contract worth at least €12m in total, according to a report.
Milan have been heavily linked with the Swiss midfielder in recent weeks, keen on adding some much-needed experience to the team. Although an agreement needs to be found with Bayer Leverkusen as well, the Rossoneri have made great strides in their pursuit of the 32-year-old.
According to Daniele Longo, posting on X earlier this afternoon, Milan and Xhaka have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ over a three-year contract worth €4m plus bonuses per year. In total, as such, the deal will be worth at least €12m for the player.
For a player of his experience, it’s not an unreasonable figure but perhaps a little higher than some fans expected. It should be noted that the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Samuel Chukwueze earn the same amount, so the demands of Xhaka are justified.
The transfer fee could perhaps be a bit lower as well, at most €15m, and that would allow Milan to pay less in amortisation compared to a hefty signing. The only concern would be how many years the midfielder has left at the very top, seeing as he will turn 33 in September.
Having said that, it was evident last season that Milan lacked experience and you can certainly understand why Igli Tare is pushing for Xhaka. If you add Luka Modric to the equation, it’s clear that the situation will be completely different in the 2025-26 season.
