With an academy the size of the Rossoneri’s, it’s certainly difficult to keep up with all of the results, especially since they aren’t always readily available. Now that the season has come to an end, though, we can take a look at how each team performed, down to the U13.
It was a season filled with ups and downs for the Primavera, who were unable to consistently despite many good periods. They finished in 6th place in the end, just about making the Scudetto play-offs, but their adventure there was short-lived as Sassuolo won the quarter-final 3-0.
They also lost the Coppa Italia final against Cagliari, which no doubt stung a bit considering the performance Federico Guidi’s boys put in. The same disappointment applies to the UEFA Youth League, collecting just five points in the league phase
Guidi should be happy with the season as a whole, though, as many young players were fielded. Not to mention that the team lost many players to the Futuro, with no certainty on which players would be available each weekend
It was a rather tough season for Milan’s U18 side, finishing in 16th place after registering 16 defeats and a goal difference of -18. Only 18 teams compete in the league, but there is at least no relegation, only play-offs for the Scudetto.
The U18 league is seen as a transition between U17 and the Primavera, giving the clubs a chance to prepare the youngsters even more for the big jump. Indeed, the U18 league is relatively new and more than anything, should be seen as practice.
After finishing in 2nd place in Group B of the U17 league, two points behind city rivals Inter, Milan’s U17 side made it all the way to the Scudetto final after beating Empoli and Juventus in the play-offs. However, sadly, they lost the final on penalties against Torino
Christian Vechiu was sent off with around 30 minutes to go in the game, making things difficult for the Rossoneri, but they managed to hold on for penalties (there was extra time as well). Torino scored five penalties, while Milan only scored four as Emanuele Borsani saw his effort saved
Milan’s U16 side finished 5th in the league and thus made the Scudetto play-offs, taking on Inter in the round of 16. After losing the first leg 1-0, the Rossoneri prevailed by the same scoreline in the return leg, but the Nerazzurri advanced because they finished higher in the league.
Milan’s U15 side, with the hyped talent Akram Jadid in the team, finished 2nd in the league six points behind Inter. They beat Empoli and Roma in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively, taking on Fiorentina in the semi-finals.
Despite winning the first leg 4-2, they collapsed in the return leg as La Viola prevailed 6-0. The journey ended in the semi-finals, as such, but it was still a positive season.
Milan’s U14 side did well throughout the season but missed out on the Scudetto play-offs, finishing in 3rd place, 14 points behind Inter and Juventus at the top.
Milan’s U13 side clinched the title after an impressive run in the Scudetto play-offs, taking on Albinoleffe, Parma and Roma in the mini-group format. They beat Roma 3-0, Albinoleffe 4-2 and then drew 2-2 against Parma.
Andrea Kostyuk, another talent in Milan’s academy that many have spoken of, was one of the key players as he bagged four goals.
