Arsenal are yet to make a signing in this summer’s transfer window and frustrations are growing.
Mikel Arteta is under pressure to deliver a trophy next season but will not be encouraged by Andrea Berta’s failure to deliver a signing thus far.
Martin Zubimendi is in London to finalise a move to the Gunners however, supporters are desperate to see progress on attacking reinforcements – Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres continue to be linked.
To further deflate the mood among fans, title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have been busy already with the Premier League champions confirming the signing of Florian Wirtz in a £116.5m deal.
However, Arteta will be pleased to know that the Gunners already have a player that can match Wirtz within his squad and he is ready to show that next campaign…
Wirtz arrives in England from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen, the same route that Arsenal’s Kai Havertz took early in his career.
The pair have played together at international level for Germany but left Leverkusen with very similar records in terms of goal contributions.
Havertz was hailed as ‘incredible’ by Arteta following his early recovery from hamstring surgery last season as the forward had his best goalscoring season at the Gunners despite the injury lay-off.
Arteta will now be hoping that Havertz can continue his development next season and rival the goals and assists that his international teammate Wirtz will be looking to provide for Arne Slot.
Jamie Carragher has backed Havertz to regain his place as Arsenal’s main striker despite the fact the club are desperate to sign another number nine.
The Gunners missed Havertz severely during his injury absence from the beginning of February and the German’s strength and versatility means he will be a key figure again next campaign.
Havertz has played in a number of positions under Arteta and many believe he will thrive next season playing behind a centre forward.
Arriving late into the box and using his physicality could mean that the 26-year-old is about to have his best season yet at the Emirates Stadium.
