Alex Jimenez will remain at AC Milan for the upcoming season as Real Madrid have decided not to exercise the buy-back clause in the Spaniard’s contract.
Jimenez arrived on a season-long loan in the summer of 2023 and was then signed permanently by Milan the following summer. The transfer cost them around €5m, which might sound low for a player with so much potential, but it’s because a buy-back clause was included.
As revealed by reports at the time, the buy-back clause was set to €9m for this summer and will increase to €12m next summer. According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), however, it will have to be the latter figure or nothing as Real Madrid have decided not to trigger the clause this year.
With the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as Dani Carvajal remaining, the Bernabeu side will not spend any more money on the right-back position. Subsequently, Milan will be able to rely on Jimenez’s services for at least one more season.
It remains to be seen what Jimenez’s role will be under the guidance of Max Allegri, and if he will still feature for Milan Futuro now that they have been relegated to Serie D. Most likely, he will be part of the first team as an attacking winger, rather than as a right-back.
