In a recent interview with La Vanguardia, Barcelona sporting director Deco gave his honest thoughts on Real Madrid’s summer transfer activity, while also highlighting the contrasting strategies between the two Spanish giants.

So far, Los Blancos have made headlines with the signings of Trent Alexander-Arnold, promising centre-back Dean Huijsum, and Argentine wonderkid Franco MastantuonoDeco, when asked for his opinion on Madrid’s business, responded respectfully,

“The centre-back, Huijsen, is very good, and as for Alexander-Arnold, he is a great full-back,” said the former midfielder, acknowledging the quality additions made by their rivals.

Different worlds

When questioned about Mastantuono, who is considered one of South America’s top young talents and will join Madrid after the Club World Cup, Deco made it clear that Barcelona have a different transfer philosophy and structure.

He used the example of Vitor Roque to illustrate the point. “When we signed Vitor Roque, Lewandowski was already 34.

“It was a strategic move looking to the future. Things didn’t work out because of timing or other factors, but the concept was solid. It wasn’t a failure in planning.”

Barcelona are currently focusing on players who can make an impact both now and in the near future.
