Manchester United are reportedly considering a move to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin this summer.
The Red Devils’ goalkeeper position is a precarious one at the moment, with the future of Andre Onana very uncertain after a season where the United keeper struggled to keep his starting spot under Ruben Amorim.
Reported by Sky Sports, it has been claimed that Monaco want to sign Onana from Manchester United, and the Red Devils are actively looking to sell him, despite the fact that the Cameroon international wants to stay at Old Trafford.
If the Red Devils sell Onana, they will need to find a suitable replacement who can become the first choice keeper at Old Trafford ahead of backup Altay Bayindir. And they have been linked to a Real Madrid star.
Manchester United linked with Andriy Lunin
Reports have emerged suggesting that Manchester United have identified Real Madrid backup Andriy Lunin as a potential target to replace Onana.
According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central via the Daily Star, United have been in talks with Lunin’s agent about a potential deal for the 26-year-old. It says that Manchester United are willing to pay £13m for Lunin, but Real Madrid wants at least £20m.
Last season, the Ukrainian made 14 appearances for Madrid, conceding 19 goals and keeping an impressive six clean sheets. It is not understood whether the player wants to leave Real Madrid, but the lure of more consistent game time has to be tempting for the Ukraine international.
During his time as manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti was very fond of Lunin, describing him as “highly motivated” and “outstanding”.
Lunin is an alternative to Emi Martinez
The Real Madrid keeper isn’t the only stopper linked with United, as reports have also suggested that the Red Devils could make a move to sign Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, who is expected to leave Villa Park this summer.
He is likely to cost as little as £16m from Villa, after a season where the 32-year-old managed to keep 16 clean sheets in 53 games for Unai Emery’s side. It has been said that he would like a move to Old Trafford, but it is unclear as to whether the Red Devils are going to move to sign him.
Martinez has more experience at the top level, however, he is five years older than Lunin, who could be more of a long-term option for the Red Devils.
