AC Milan need to reinforce their midfield as a result of Tijjani Reijnders’ departure, and sporting director Igli Tare has three players in mind.
It will be very difficult to replace Reijnders, that much is certain, but Milan have to give it a proper go in order to remain competitive for next season. According to today’s edition of Tuttosport, as cited by MilanNews, Tare has three players in mind: Javi Guerra, Luka Modric and Granit Xhaka.
In other words, we are talking about a mix of international experience, winning mentality and potential. At the age of 22, Guerra obviously represents the latter and negotiations with Valencia, as was also told by Matteo Moretto, will require a lot of patience.
Modric has more or less been secured, but the Croatian opted to wait until after the Club World Cup to carry out the medical tests for Milan. He wants to end the Real Madrid tenure with no distractions, and it also made sense for the Rossoneri to wait in the event of an injury.
As for Xhaka, an agreement has seemingly been reached with the player but negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen are still ongoing. The German side are reportedly asking for around €15m, while Milan are currently at around €10m.
Getting these three signings over the line would certainly be a step in the right direction for the Rossoneri. The pre-season will start at the beginning of July and ideally, most of the signings will be done by then (or at least shortly after).
