AC Milan have been given a boost in their pursuit of Granit Xhaka as he is unhappy with his treatment at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Xhaka soap opera has been quite hard to keep up with and to know what is true within it. The midfielder’s father confirmed Milan’s interest earlier in the week, revealing his wishes that the clubs are able to agree a transfer fee.
However, what has filtered from Germany is to the contrary. Sky stated that there are ‘no negotiations’ between the Rossoneri and Die Werkself over the Swiss international, and Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes also refuted the idea of ongoing talks.
Christian Falk has now given an update on the Xhaka situation in his latest column for The Daily Briefing, and he confirmed that there seems to be an opening for Milan.
“True: Erik ten Hag only contacted Granit Xhaka three weeks after his presentation at Bayer Leverkusen. That is not a signal of appreciation. Xhaka didn’t like that. He told the national team that he didn’t know whether he could imagine a new start under these circumstances,” he said.
“The Dutch manager didn’t get in touch then either. Talks then began with AC Milan. There have now been further talks. Xhaka’s father is leading the talks with Milan and wants the clubs to agree on a transfer. The signs are pointing to a separation.”
