Raiders star’s $106 million contract labeled team-friendly by NFL analyst

After some doubt about his future with the Las Vegas Raiders, star edge rusher Maxx Crosby inked a three-year, $106.5 million deal with the team earlier this offseason.

Crosby still had two years left on his previous deal, but now he’s under contract with the Raiders through 2029. The $35.5 million annual average of the new contract ranks third among edge rushers. In a recent article naming some team- and player-friendly deals in the NFL, ESPN’s Dan Graziano labeled Crosby’s the former.

“The deal is team-friendly because the Raiders (who don’t put signing bonuses in their veteran deals and therefore don’t have dead-money problems when they decide to release a player) aren’t committed to Crosby beyond 2026,” he said. “His $29 million 2027 salary becomes fully guaranteed if he’s still on the roster in March 2026, but that still means they’d end up paying him a little more than $29 million per year over 2024-27.”

There were some doubts about Crosby’s future in Las Vegas after he previously left the door open for an exit depending on how things went this offseason and made it clear he wasn’t interested in a rebuild.

The Raiders responded by adding some much-needed stability with the hires of head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek, and the trade for quarterback Geno Smith, who shored up the Raiders’ biggest need.

It remains to be seen if any of those moves will pay off, but they did manage to keep the Raiders’ star defender happy and in Las Vegas for the long haul.

It was a reason why they were dead last plays allowed per drive and second-to-last in time allowed per drive. But with a beefed up defensive line and edge presence, their run defense should be better. Will that be enough to slow this lineup of opposing backs? That is one thing to watch this season.
