Granit Xhaka is further away from Milan and, at the moment, the chances that the midfielder will arrive at AC Milan are low.
That is according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, who confirm that Xhaka was a target for the middle of the park and one that ‘breaks the habits of Milan’, who in recent years have always looked for young players, with room for growth and a low salary.
Xhaka has other qualities: he has personality, he is very useful with and without the ball but he is 32 years old and would still entail a significant expense when factoring in the transfer fee and salary. The point was to understand if Milan would make an exception for him, in the search for new leaders.
Milan have already reached a handshake with Luka Modric, who is not yet an official signing but has had an agreement with Igli Tare for some time. If everything goes as planned, a photo of him in the red and black shirt will appear on social media at the end of his time at the Club World Cup.
He will be the experienced player to whom the keys to Milan’s midfield will be entrusted. The rest of the department will have Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Youssouf Fofana, the two players confirmed from last season, and some Under 25s. Samuele Ricci from Torino above all.
Milan remain in contact with Valencia for Javi Guerra. They made an offer of €20m, bonuses included, and could make another one this week. Valencia can soon sell Christian Mosquera to Arsenal, a defender who was also followed in the past by Milan.
So far they have rejected bids for Guerra. Will they be able to do so even when faced with an offer that is in the region of €20-25m? We will soon find out.
