Brook Lopez has agreed to a two-year, $18 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, while Clint Capela has signed a three-year, $21.5 million deal with the Houston Rockets.
The Los Angeles Lakers just lost two more options to bolster their center position, as a pair of veteran big men chose different destinations.According to Shams Charania of ESPN, free agent center Brook Lopez has agreed to a two-year, $18 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. Meanwhile, Clint Capela has signed a three-year, $21.5 million contract to return to the Houston Rockets.
Both players were reportedly high on the LA Lakers’ list of targets and had drawn serious interest from the Purple & Gold.
Lopez, a 2021 NBA champion with the Bucks, still offers exactly what the Lakers need: size, floor spacing, and elite rim protection. Even at age 37, he remains productive, averaging 13 points, five rebounds, and two blocks per game last season in Milwaukee. He’s also no stranger to L.A., having played for the Lakers in 2017–18 and posting similar numbers.
Capela, 31, brings a wealth of experience after an 11-year career spanning 664 games with Houston and Atlanta.
With both veterans off the board, the Lakers may now turn their attention to Deandre Ayton, who recently became a free agent after being waived by the Portland Trail Blazers.
