Matteo Moretto has given an update on AC Milan’s pursuit of a new striker, confirming they were offered a Monaco forward.
The new sporting director Igli Tare confirmed during a press conference last week that Milan are hunting for a new centre-forward. They will arrive to complement Santiago Gimenez, and he even revealed that the club want someone with characteristics very similar to Olivier Giroud.
Speaking in a MilanNews column earlier in the week, Antonio Vitiello stated that there is a generous budget available for the acquisition of a new number nine. He believes it will be around €40-50m, leading to links with Capocannoniere winner Mateo Retegui.
Speaking in an update on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Moretto shed some light on the timing in mind for Milan’s centre-forward signing and also confirmed one name they have been offered.
“Milan are evaluating various profiles, but at the moment the Rossoneri are focused on Jashari. The discussions for the striker will take place at the end of July, beginning of August,” he said (via MilanNews)
“I confirm that Embolo from Monaco has been proposed, but for now everything is stuck at a simple proposal. The discussion has not gone further, but it is true that his profile has been proposed to the Rossoneri.”
Embolo, 28, has 22 goals and 13 assists in 89 games for Monaco, which suggests he is not the 20+ per season scorer that the directors are looking for. He can also play on the wing, if necessary.
