Report: £33m striker would love to sign for Arsenal if Viktor Gyokeres’ move falls through…see more

Although things remain relatively calm from an Arsenal point of view in England, reports from Portugal now suggest that the Gunners’ move to sign Viktor Gyokeres could be at risk.

Viktor Gyokeres wants to sign for Arsenal and the feeling is reciprocated on the Gunners’ end — sporting director Andrea Berta is currently trying to reach an agreement with Sporting CP.

However, as the days drag on, there is a little bit of uncertainty creeping in amongst the Arsenal fan base.

Arsenal have just announced the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford, an experienced addition who should prove to be a very clever buy for Mikel Arteta.

But with respect to Norgaard, fans in N5 are still more concerned about the striker who Berta is going to eventually bring to the club.

If Berta doesn’t end up signing Viktor Gyokeres this summer, then it might also be the case that Arsenal veto a move for Benjamin Sesko.

RB Leipzig are holding firm on Sesko’s asking price, one that Arsenal don’t consider good value.

Therefore, it might be the case that Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins suddenly shoots to the forefront of Arsenal’s thinking.

And TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Watkins would love to be ‘that guy’ to come in for Arsenal.

Arsenal’s interest in Watkins remains, and he is very much the ‘other’ option after Gyokeres and Sesko.

The Gunners really appreciate the England international, but they have their own value of him, and it’s not above £50m or anything similar.

TBR Football understands that Watkins would privately love to sign for Arsenal, but whether he gets the chance remains to be seen.

In line with Watkins’ stance now, the Villa striker previously confessed that it would be a ‘dream’ to sign for Arsenal when speaking back in 2020.

The 29-year-old has since scored a lot of goals at Villa Park following his £33m move to Villa that same year; but it would seem that he still harbours that same ambition.

Speaking five years ago, Watkins said: “That’s the dream to play for Arsenal one day, but it’s a long shot.”

Of course, Watkins does have 75 Premier League goals to his name and that shouldn’t be understated when comparing him to the likes of Gyokeres and Sesko.

And it’s also important to remember that Arsenal made a bid for Watkins only half a year ago, a striker who is still in his prime years.
