Juventus will be led into a new era by Damien Comolli and François Modesto, but they could have been doing the same at AC Milan.
In the end, Milan chose to rely on Igli Tare as the new sporting director and Massimiliano Allegri as the new head coach to try and rebound after a disastrous 2024-25 season. However, things could have been very different.
As reported by Il Bianconero (via Calciomercato.com), Milan’s owners RedBird Capital strongly thought about hiring Damien Comolli and Francois Modesto, who have since been appointed as the General Manager and technical director of Juventus respectively.
Both will be tasked with restructuring and revitalising a Juve side that has stalled, both sportingly and managerially. Comolli has a 30-year career behind him at clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Toulouse.
It was while he was with the French club that he was evaluated by the Rossoneri as part of Gerry Cardinale’s new setup, but the deal never materialised. The same goes for Modesto, who was also in Milan’s sights as a director, before they went for Tare.
He was Monza’s sporting director from 2022 to 2024 during a period where they rose rapidly, and it was believed that he was highly thought of by Geoffrey Moncada, who is the technical director at Milan. Different choices were made, and we must see how they play out.
