Arsenal are now ramping up their transfer efforts ahead of their pre-season tour of Asia, and new sporting director Andrea Berta is certainly showing his worth.
Arsenal have agreed to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, and many more deals are set to follow.
Before the end of August, and perhaps even sooner, Arsenal hope to have signed all of Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera and Eberechi Eze as well.
And perhaps if there’s still money left in the transfer pot, Arsenal could bid for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who is unhappy with his squad role in Spain.
It was always thought that Andrea Berta would oversee a seriously ambitious summer at the Emirates, and it’s proving to be exactly that.
That being said, Arsenal are now closing in on a deal to sign Mosquera from Valencia after Viktor Gyokeres.
And journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the ‘fantastic’ 20-year-old is pushing just as hard as Gyokeres to move to north London.
Sharing an update on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Don’t forget about Cristhian Mosquera the defender, because Mosquera told Valencia in a similar situation to Viktor Gyokeres that he will only go to Arsenal.
“So forget about extending his contract, Valencia have offered a new deal twice to Mosquera in recent weeks – no chance.
“The player is not extending, one year left on his contract so he wants to go to Arsenal, he wants to go now and there is the possibility obviously of going as a free agent next summer.
“But Valencia know that would make no sense for them, not to make some profit from Mosquera.
“The player also wants Valencia to get some money because obviously he wants to respect the club and leave in good relationships.
“So now let’s wait for these conversations to continue between Valencia and Arsenal, but Mosquera is expected to become a new Arsenal defender in the next days too.
“So big moments for Arsenal, with the player deciding to go to them.”
Of course, Mosquera will predominantly be coming in to provide back-up to William Saliba at right centre-back.
And if Jakub Kiwior returns to Italy, perhaps the Spaniard will also be first-choice on the left side of Arsenal’s starting duo as well.
Fortunately for Arsenal fans, reliable journalist David Ornstein has also recently confirmed that the Gunners are working to complete a deal for Mosquera.
Posting on X, Ornstein said: “Arsenal working to complete deal to sign defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.
“21yo centre-back into last year at ValenciaCF + AFC move now very advanced. Personal terms done for Spain youth int’l to make switch.”
And given that the number five shirt is currently vacant at the Emirates, perhaps the 20-year-old can one day follow in the footsteps of Martin Keown and Kolo Toure.
A superb young talent, and another very clever signing for Berta, who would be paying a lot more were Mosquera not entering the final year of his deal at Valencia.
