Arsenal are not prepared to sell Jakub Kiwior this summer despite agreeing terms to bring in a new centre-back, sources have told Football Insider.
The Gunners have agreed personal terms with Cristhian Mosquera ahead of his potential move from Valencia.
However, sources say that the addition of Mosquera will not spell the end of Kiwior’s time at the Emirates, as the North London side continue to build a squad with sufficient depth.
Mikel Arteta wants to have four centre-backs at his disposal ahead of the upcoming campaign, in order to give him the resources to cope with potential injuries.
Rather than coming in as Kiwior’s replacement, Mosquera is likely to fill the void left by Takehiro Tomiyasu, who was released by Arsenal at the start of the month.
The Japanese defender was plagued by a knee injury last season, playing just six minutes of Premier League football for Arteta’s side.
Mosquera isn’t expected to be an immediate starter once he completes his move to North London, and is seen as one for the future by the Arsenal hierarchy.
Along with Kiwior, the 21-year-old will deputise for the established defensive partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel.
Meanwhile, sources have told Football Insider that Arsenal have been boosted in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as the midfielder wants to move to the Emirates this summer.
While the England international is not expected to agitate for the move, he is keen to play Champions League football and compete for honours on a regular basis.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 13 July that Arsenal are prepared to meet Eze’s release clause if they can reach an agreement over the payment structure.
While Oliver Glasner’s side are reluctant to let Eze leave, the two clubs are continuing in negotiations as Arsenal are unable to pay the full £68million up front.
