AC Milan could make an approach for one of the first-team Manchester United players that Ruben Amorim inherited from Erik ten Hag, according to reports in Italy.
Erik ten Hag’s reign as Manchester United manager came to an end last October after the 55-year-old Dutchman was sacked from his role at Old Trafford.
The former United manager had inked a contract extension under the Ineos regime only last summer ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season with the Red Devils.
However, a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign resulted in Ten Hag’s dismissal and the arrival of Ruben Amorim in the Old Trafford dugout.
Ten Hag arrived at United from Ajax in 2022 and the ex-Red Devils head coach lifted both the FA Cup and the League Cup before his eventual departure in 2024.
The former Ajax boss had been waiting on the sidelines after his Old Trafford exit before Ten Hag was announced as the Bayer Leverkusen manager in May.
Rasmus Hojlund has been linked with Inter Milan this summer and the 22-year-old Manchester United striker has attracted interest from Serie A side Roma as well.
The Danish forward struggled in his second full season at Old Trafford after his £72m move from Serie A side Atalanta in 2023 under Erik ten Hag’s reign.
Rasmus Hojlund only managed to score a lacklustre 10 times and had four assists to his name in 52 matches across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio now reports that AC Milan are on the ‘hunt for a striker’ and the ‘latest name’ on the list is none other than the struggling United striker.
It is believed that the Serie A club are aiming to plug the void left behind by Luka Jovic’s summer exit and Tammy Abraham’s loan move to Turkish side Besiktas.
AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri now has to rely on Santiago Gimenez as a striker and Hojlund is viewed as a replacement for Luka Jovic and Tammy Abraham.
Rasmus Hojlund is under contract with United until 2028 and the Denmark and Red Devils striker has outlined his desire to stay at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.
Amorim has been tipped to bring a new striker to the Premier League club this summer after the struggles of Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the frontline.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare is now set on finding the ‘right profile for the attack’ of Massimiliano Allegri’s side for next season.
He added that Milan have ‘conducted’ a ‘survey’ around Hojlund to ‘understand the feasibility of the operation’ amid the United striker’s uncertain future at Old Trafford.
