Luka Doncic’s body transformation is turning heads as the Los Angeles Lakers star preps for his biggest NBA season. Doncic is undergoing training in Croatia with trainer Anze Machek.
It is no secret that the 26-year-old hasn’t been in shape for quite some time. Nico Harrison’s growing frustration with Doncic eventually played a part in the guard’s exit from Dallas. Mavericks management reportedly ‘had enough’ with Doncic’s lack of fitness.
Men’s Health reported concerns about Doncic’s growing dependence on beer and hookah during his final Mavericks months. Despite several warnings, the guard didn’t cave which resulted in his Lakers move early this year. And for the first time in his NBA career, Doncic is trimming down his body.
Not all top athletes succeed because of six-pack abs or lean frames in professional sports. If anything, the examples of Nikola Jokic, Shaquille O’Neal, Patrick Mahomes suggest otherwise. But having your body shape according to your natural game helps in the journey.
For Jokic, having that kind of mass alleviates his game. And for Shaquille O’Neal, that massive body weight helped him dominate in the paint, shrugging off athletic defenders with ease. However, with Luka Doncic, having a lean body would help his natural game. Driving inside, quick reflexes, and defensive hustle are all expected to improve with his slimmer frame.
Luka Doncic himself described that he’s never felt better with his body. “My whole body looks better. This summer was just a little bit different, you know. It kind of motivated me to because even better,” said the Lakers guard in an interview with the Man’s Health.
Doncic found extra motivation following the public fallout and fitness criticism he received in Dallas earlier this year. He was publicly called out for his lack of fitness and that has motivated him resulting in a complete physical transformation.
Luka Doncic is currently on a gluten-free, low sugar diet. His daily intake includes at least 250 grams of protein and one almond milk shake to enhance his frame.
