When asked about his upcoming $229 million extension with the Lakers, Luka Doncic playfully dodged the question with a smile, pretending not to know what the talk was about.
Starting Saturday, August 2, the Los Angeles Lakers will be eligible to offer Luka Doncic an extension, and the Slovenian superstar is expected to sign a four-year, $229 million contract extension that same day.
On his recent appearance on NBC’s Today Show, Doncic was asked about the big decision.
Any message for fans?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Luka cut the conversation short with a smile, prompting laughter from the hosts.
“I can’t discuss anything yet,” he added, still smiling.
This summer, Doncic has undergone a dramatic physical transformation.
He’s adopted a rigorous offseason routine that includes fasted two-a-day workouts, intermittent fasting, a high-protein diet, and a focus on strength, balance, and recovery—all with the support of a personalized fitness team.
Off the court, he’s also been active in shaping the Lakers’ roster. Reports say Luka played a role in recruiting big names like Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to Los Angeles.
The Lakers acquired Doncic back in early February in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks, who reportedly had growing concerns about his conditioning and long-term health.
Now, Doncic is the face of the franchise, as the Lakers build their future around him—not the 40-year-old LeBron James.
