The Gunners worked long and hard to bring the Sweden international to the Emirates Stadium. Sporting CP didn’t make the deal easy by any means, and talks dragged on for several weeks.
However, Andrea Berta struck a deal with the Portuguese champions last week, and the move was made official over the weekend.
Gyokeres has only trained a few times with the Arsenal squad, but TBR can reveal that he has already made a great impression.
There are a lot of doubts over whether Viktor Gyokeres will be a success at Arsenal following his move from Sporting CP.
The Swede was one of the most prolific strikers on the planet during his time in Portugal. He scored 97 goals in 102 games, which is a stunning record.
However, the Premier League is on another level compared to the Portuguese top flight, so there are concerns among some fans over how he will fare.
But, if you speak to the players and coaches who have watched him train over the last few days, they are all convinced that he is going to be a star.
TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has revealed that everyone inside Arsenal said the same thing after watching Gyokeres train – ‘wow!’
“One word, ‘wow’ – that is the response I have had from inside the Arsenal camp when I asked about Gyokeres,” Bailey said.
“Although he has just turned up, I am told that he could play tomorrow if the Premier League started – he is ready!
“Gyokeres made it clear through the process that he is ready, and my word, he has blown coaches and teammates away already.
“Arsenal are not getting carried away, but his professionalism is shining through already. Arsenal really do think they have landed a good one.”
Arsenal fans will be very happy to know that Gyokeres has been impressing behind the scenes.
The Gunners have had the best defence in the Premier League in each of the last two seasons; it’s their frailties in attack that have cost them.
William Saliba, who is one of the best defenders in the world, has played against Gyokeres before, and he has explained what centre-backs in the Premier League are set to experience soon.
He told ESPN: “We know how good he is; it’s scary to play against him. Of course, I’m so happy to have him in my club, and I’m sure that he will help us win games and win trophies.
“[He is scary] because when you face a striker who scores goals, you have to be focused! But now he’s in our team and he will score for us, so that’s good.”
