Report: Arsenal’s ‘number one winger target’ now open to Premier League transfer

Arsenal have already made plenty of signings, but it appears a move for their reported ‘number one’ winger target, could be back on.

Back in June, a reliable source, @HandöfArsenal, claimed an exclusive that ‘Arsenal had made Rodrygo their number one winger target this summer. While that story appeared to fade in recent weeks, it now looks to be heating up again — with the Brazilian reportedly open to a move away from Real Madrid.

This news comes from ESPN Brazil, who add that: ‘according to our sources, his wage demands were deemed too high by Arsenal, who’s very unlikely to pursue him now’.

Rodrygo, who turned 24 in January, is believed to be growing frustrated with his role at the Spanish giants. With Kylian Mbappé arriving and Endrick also joining the senior setup, game time on the flanks could be limited. Arsenal, still seeking to strengthen their left-wing options, are reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

One player who could be directly impacted is Leandro Trossard (30). Trossard has just one year remaining on his contract. While he was said to be in advanced talks over a new deal earlier this summer, those discussions have reportedly stalled, casting doubt on his long-term future in north London.

If Arsenal do manage to shift Trossard, and other fringe players, it could allow them to get closer to Rodrygo’s wage demands.

With Liverpool now poised to sign Alexander Isak to add to an already stacked forward line featuring recent additions Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, Arsenal must act decisively. Their main attacking rival has strengthened significantly, and Arsenal cannot afford to fall behind with Champions League and Premier League ambitions at stake.

A double swoop for Rodrygo and Eberechi Eze (27) would bring flair, final-third productivity, and positional flexibility — something Arsenal lacked at key moments last season. However, with a bloated squad and several fringe players still occupying valuable space and wages, sales will be necessary before any blockbuster arrivals.

If Rodrygo is truly pushing for an exit and Arsenal can raise the funds, this could be the summer that sees the Gunners add another Brazilian star to their growing contingent — and seriously bolster their title credentials in the process.
