In recent years, the management have wavered in support. However, the hiring of Igli Tare was a step in the right direction, and further positive steps can follow. It is easier said than done, of course, but it is possible that Milan can continue to rise again.
To do so, they may look to hire someone responsible for the large successes in the past. Of course, that would be Galliani. His situation will not be the only thing that brings or doesn’t bring success. But it could certainly be an aid.
In the past few days, the rumours have grown louder to a point where the club are considering it, as Pietro Mazzara writes for MilanNews. So today, he has looked at the necessary steps of a return.
“Adriano Galliani’s possible return to AC Milan isn’t imminent, and there’s a reason for that. The “boss” is currently busy navigating Monza from Fininvest to the group of American investors who signed the deal to acquire the Brianza club.
The deal is expected to close in September, and therefore, Galliani won’t leave Monza before then. It’s hard to believe he could remain in Brianza in an honorary or merely representative role. But before then, no agreement will be signed between the manager and RedBird Capital, the fund headed by Gerry Cardinale and which holds the majority of AC Milan shares.
Galliani’s position in a potential return to AC Milan would not be directly within the club’s organisational structure, where positions are already filled. He could serve as advisor to RedBird, with responsibility for representing AC Milan within the Lega Serie A, a role currently held by Paolo Scaroni.
“However, it must be said, in all honesty and candour, that Scaroni’s performance within football’s ruling body is unsatisfactory, given that AC Milan’s political clout within the Lega Serie A is at an all-time low. Galliani’s arrival as AC Milan’s “foreign minister” could alter the balance of power and equilibrium within the Lega Serie A itself.
Finally, Galliani could also help Giorgio Furlani and Igli Tare in managing some crucial moments of the season regarding the team and the coach.
“It’s worth remembering the strong bond between Galliani himself and Massimiliano Allegri, with the former AC Milan CEO not only choosing him in May 2010 to replace Leonardo, but also defending him until the end, even in January 2014, when he then had to give in to Barbara Berlusconi’s decision to fire Allegri after the 4-3 defeat against Sassuolo. These are the facts as of today, without any forward runs and with all due caution.
