Arsenal signed Noni Madueke from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer 2025 transfer window to provide more depth up front.
Madueke joined for a fee amounting to a total of £52m from Chelsea, making him one of many players to make the switch from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates. Madueke is an England international, and regarded as one of the most technically talented wingers in the Premier League.
At the age of 23, the winger has plenty of development left to go, and Mikel Arteta will hope that despite facing criticism for the signing, Arsenal will reap the benefits of trusting in Madueke and his future.
Madueke began his footballing career in 2011 at the age of nine, when he joined the Crystal Palace academy. He spent three years with Palace’s academy, but was snapped up by rivals Tottenham Hotspur in 2014, when he was just 13.
The English attacker began to really flourish in Tottenham’s academy captaining their U16s side, and even making his debut for the U18s at the age of just 15. However, unlike many young English players, Madueke took the gamble to not stay in England and the Premier League.
He instead moved to PSV Eindhoven for his first professional contract in 2018 on a three year deal, he even rejected an offer from Premier League giants Manchester United in order to move to PSV. Many would consider that a strange move, but it worked a treat for Madueke.
He worked his way through the U17s, U19s and U21s for PSV, making a total of 44 appearances for their youth teams. He scored 18 goals, and provided 13 assists, numbers that were impressive enough for him to make his full first team debut in January 2020, at the age of 18.
However, it was during the 2020/21 season when Madueke really broke out. He made 32 appearances in all competitions, including his debut in the Europa League. In his first full season for PSV, Madueke impressed aged 19, scoring nine goals, and providing eight assists.
The following year, it was more of the same for the Englishman, who made 35 appearances, scoring nine goals, and providing six assists. His performances began to attract the attention of Chelsea in the Premier League, as they spent the first half of the 2022/23 season monitoring the 20-year-old.
Madueke made nine appearances for PSV in that year, before in the January transfer window, Chelsea came in for him, and signed him for a fee of £28.5m on a mega seven year contract.
It didn’t take long for Madueke to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, as he made 12 appearances for the Blues in the second half of the season, scoring his first goal in a game against Arsenal (ironically) when the Gunners won 3-1 at the Emirates in May 2023.
However, it was Madueke’s second season at Chelsea that really changed his career. He made 34 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, scoring eight goals, and providing four assists. His impressive performances awarded him with his first England call up in August 2024.
In his final year at Chelsea, Madueke proved to be one of their best attacking players alongside Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto. He made 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals, and providing five assists.
He also managed to help the Blues to get back into the Champions League, and also win the Europa Conference League. However, as the Club World Cup was rolling on, it was to be the last tournament in Blue, as Madueke then joined Arsenal.
