AC Milan utility man Alexis Saelemaekers is reportedly keen on remaining with the Serie A club beyond the summer transfer window amid his links with Aston Villa.
According to an update by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, Alexis Saelemaekers is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old AC Milan utility man has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.
The Berchem-Sainte-Agathe native is also a target for Nottingham Forest, apart from courting interest from Aston Villa. However, Saelemaekers is keen on remaining at AC Milan beyond the summer transfer window, thus dealing a blow to the two Premier League clubs’ prospects.
Alexis Saelamaekers has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining AC Milan from Anderlecht. The Rossoneri initially signed the 26-year-old versatile wide attacker on loan in January 2020 before completing a permanent move in the subsequent summer transfer window. While the player was a dependable performer for AC Milan in his first three seasons, he has spent the last two campaigns away from San Siro.
Bologna signed the Belgian international on loan for the 2023/24 campaign before AS Roma secured his services last summer. Saelemaekers was reasonably impressive for the Giallorossi, contributing to 14 goals in 31 appearances by finding the back of the net seven times and providing seven assists. Meanwhile, the player’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Aston Villa’s interest in Alexis Saelemaekers is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a wide attacker this summer after failing to complete a permanent move for Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio. While they have reinforced their offensive unit by signing Evann Guessand from OGC Nice, Unai Emery wants more firepower in the final third.
So, Saelemaekers has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, with the West Midlands outfit eager to launch a bid to sign him in the summer transfer window. However, a summer move will not see the light of day, as the Belgian international is keen on remaining with AC Milan.
The 26-year-old utility man’s stance on his future has dealt a blow to Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, with the latter also pursuing his signature. It will be interesting to see who becomes Aston Villa’s next target in the final days of the summer transfer window.
