Report: Arsenal fans notice one thing about Eberechi Eze

Eberechi Eze clinched another piece of silverware with Crystal Palace as they lifted the Community Shield after beating Liverpool.

Speculation over the attacker’s future is now likely to ramp up following the conclusion of the Community Shield, with Arsenal strongly targeting him.

TBR Football understands that Palace remain open to selling Eze, despite his release clause expiring, as the player remains keen on a move across London.

But not all Arsenal fans are so sold on the idea of the 27-year-old arriving at the Emirates Stadium this summer, and a warning has been sent to Andrea Berta.

Arsenal supporters have raised concerns over Eberechi Eze’s ability to play as a left winger following his display against Liverpool.

The Crystal Palace forward still enjoyed a strong showing at Wembley Stadium, but mostly when operating in central areas.

The Gunners need a winger who will be willing to hug the touchline and be able to carry the ball at speed during transitions.

Arsenal must sell Gabriel Martinelli before signing Eze, so a deal could be delayed for that reason, whilst they work on getting players out the door.

TBR Football understands that Arsenal have discussed where Eberechi Eze would play, with the consensus being that he is best in the number ten role.

Therefore, the North London club would still be without an elite left winger and relying on Martinelli to feature there next season.

After the Community Shield, Arsenal fans took to X to question whether Eze would be the ideal signing for the left wing role.

One fan said: “Eze is class, but I’m more interested in bringing in a competent left winger who can lead transitions.”

“That transition chance for Eze on the left winger is why he isn’t a winger. We need him and a winger,” claimed another Arsenal supporter.

There were further concerns raised over Eze’s ability out wide: “Eze on the wing, it’s not gonna happen. You see that pace. Very good player, but not a winger.”

Finally, another fan added: “Eberechi Eze would obviously improve Arsenal, but not by signing him as a left winger. Eze looks so comfortable finding pockets of space centrally and drifting from wing to wing as the game progresses. One of Eze and Odegaard would have to start on the bench.”

Jermain Defoe backs Tottenham to rival Arsenal for Eze, so the Gunners will need to make a swift decision over whether to sign him or not.

Tottenham showed an interest in Eze earlier this summer and now that James Maddison is injured, they could well revisit the situation.

VAR decided that Eze’s penalty miss should stand amid controversy as to whether Alisson Becker’s backfoot appeared to remain just about on the line.

Following a stuttery run-up, the 27-year-old produced a weak effort from the penalty spot, which allowed the Brazilian goalkeeper to have an easy save.

The technology opted to give the Liverpool number one the benefit of the doubt by sticking with the decision to let the miss stand.

Fortunately for Eze, the miss proved irrelevant as the South London club managed to get the win over the line at Wembley.
