Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal are battling with Tottenham to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze.
The Gunners are looking to add more firepower in attack this summer despite already signing Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke. It is understood that Mikel Arteta wants another attacking midfielder, but also someone to challenge Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing.
Ahead of the first game of the season against Man United, Arsenal are unlikely to add anymore names, however, before the end of the transfer window, the Gunners are expected to sign at least one more player.
They have been heavily linked to Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, but are yet to make a formal move for the England international, and that resistance could now provide a damaging loss amid competition from Premier League rivals.
Romano said on X: “Understand Tottenham are also back in talks for Eberechi Eze in separate deal from Savinho. Spurs trying again for Eze while they work on Savinho, following Maddison injury and Son exit. Eze keen but deal depends on Palace as release clause expired.”
Eze has a £68m release clause in his contract, something that has so far slowed Arsenal’s pursuit of him down, but if Spurs are willing to pay the extra fee to land him, they could swoop ahead of the Gunners and secure the England international.
This would be a huge loss for Arteta’s side, as last season the Crystal Palace star scored 14 goals, and provided 11 assists for Oliver Glasner’s side, helping them to their first ever FA Cup title.
