Benjamin Sesko could make his Manchester United debut this weekend against Arsenal.
Many of the biggest headlines ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Arsenal stem from the fact that both clubs spent big on new centre-forwards this summer.
Arsenal won the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, despite being heavily linked with a move to United throughout the summer.
Interestingly, United signed RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who was one of Mikel Arteta’s top targets for Arsenal this summer.
This weekend, the two Premier League newcomers could make their competitive debut for their new clubs.
All eyes will be on Sesko and Gyokeres to see which player scores first in the Premier League this season.
After working with Gyokeres at Sporting CP, Amorim knows the Sweden international better than most.
Amorim got the best out of Gyokeres and they have a strong relationship as a result.
United fans will hope that Amorim can help his defence by providing insight into what they can expect from the Swedish striker.
Amorim was asked whether Gyokeres is ready for the Premier League, when he told reporters: “That is a question for Mikel [Arteta]. Viktor is in a different league. Sporting have good scouting because they live from the players they can buy and sell to survive. I think he’s a very good player. It’s not a surprise to see him with a big club in England.”
Despite sitting on the bench for the final two pre-season friendlies of the summer, Rasmus Hojlund remains an option for Amorim for the first game of the 2025/26 campaign.
It remains to be seen if Hojlund will feature for United at a later date amid reports of a move to AC Milan.
When asked about the Dane, Amorim said: “He’s one more option. We will see. We are focused on this game and Rasmus is still our player.”
